Kolkata: A nodal officer of the Election Commission, who had gone missing from Krishnagar in Nadia district of West Bengal, seven days ago, was found on the platform of the Howrah Station by the CID, a senior official said Thursday. The officer, Arnab Roy, was found after tracking the location of his mobile phone.
“We have found Mr Roy from Howrah Station this (Thursday) morning. He is fine,” a CID personnel told this agency while adding that when the officer was found, he was looking tired and exhausted.
Asked whether Roy was abducted or he was hiding on his own, the officer said, “We will talk to him to find out what actually happened.”
Roy has been taken to his in-laws place in Howrah district only. “We will wait for him to recover from his exhaustion and then talk to him,” said DIG CID (Operations) Nishat Parvez. Till that happens, no one will be able to ascertain the exact reason why Roy went missing.
The CID was keeping track on the cell phone number of Roy. Since he had gone missing April 18, the phone had remained switched off. However, Thursday, the CID noticed that the phone had been switched on and Roy was talking to his family members. Tracking the twoer location of the number, the CID found Roy on one of the platforms of Howrah Station.
The 30-year-old Roy was in-charge of EVMs and VVPATs for the Ranaghat parliamentary constituency. He was posted in Krishnagar.
Roy had left for work April 18 from his official residence and went to Bipradas Choudhury Polytechnic College, his current place of work. He went missing from there.
