Cuttack: Police recovered Friday a woman’s body from a well at Rahania village under Mahanga police limits in Cuttack district. The deceased has been identified as Jyotipriya Nayak (21), daughter of Surendra Nayak. The well from which the body was recovered was 100 metres away from the deceased’s house.
Surendra said his daughter went missing Thursday. They launched a frantic search for her everywhere but could not find her. However, it did not occur to them to look into the well.
Some villagers spotted the body Friday morning and informed Surendra who in turn informed the police.
A team from Mahanga police station and firefighters from Kuanpal fire station reached the village. They retrieved the body from the well.
Police are probing the death taking both murder and suicide angles into consideration. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report and we hope it will provide us a lead to solve the case,” an official said.
