Mathili: In a bid to check security arrangements at banks, the police Tuesday conducted mock drills at two bank branches at Mathili in Malkangiri district.
Acting on the order of Malkangiri superintendent of police Jagmohan Meena, Mathili police formed a six-member team and carried out mock drills at two banks under the police limits.
In the first indecent, the police entered a Bank of India (BoI) branch at Gobindapalli in the disguise of dacoits and tried to loot the bank in broad daylight. Then they frightened the staffers and customers and demanded their cash. However, none of them tried to alert the police in this regard.
Similarly, the police entered a State Bank of India branch at Mathili and made loot bid, but no one dared to inform the police about the robbery. Similar to the BoI branch incident, the customers present at the bank surrendered to the officials in disguise as “robbers” and none dared to confront them out of fear.
The two banks transact crores of rupees every day, but the police found no security guards were deployed at the banks. Even at ATMs there were no security personnel in the town.
Mathili police station IIC Jana Khujur, SI Somanath Dalabehera, SI Suraj Kumar Jhankar and others took part in the mock drills.
