Pottangi: In a shocking incident, a woman breathed her last after delivering twin babies in an auto-rickshaw in which she was being transported to hospital. This is yet another incident of alleged ambulance failure causing death of a pregnant woman occurred at Karibeda village under this block in Koraput district Saturday evening.
According to sources, Jani Kanama (20) wife of Jani Gangulu of Karibeda village under TalaGolur panchayat in Pottangi block was seven months pregnant. Saturday evening she complained of labour pain following which the family members contacted 102 and 108 ambulances, but neither turned up.
After losing crucial two hours waiting for ambulance, the family hired an auto. It was when the auto was crossing the ghat of Karibeda village, she went through severe pain and delivered twin baby girls in the auto itself. Post delivery excess bleeding left her unconscious.
Upon arrival at the Pottangi community health center (CHC); the doctors declared Kanama brought dead. An unnatural death case was registered by the Pottangi police.
The babies, one weighing 1.6 kg and the other 1.4 kg, have been admitted at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput.
It was learnt that the babies are stable and out of danger.
