MPS, DPS script easy wins

Bhubaneswar, August 24: Mother Public School (MPS) and DPS Kalinga, Cuttack won their respective matches convincingly in the Inter-School MCL Cup football tournament at the Unit-VI High School Ground here Monday.

In the first match, MPS blanked BJB English Medium School 2-0. The first half was barren despite attacking football by both the teams.

After the change of ends, MPS players came with a renewed strategy and up their ante. In the process they struck twice. Sarthak Sarangi opened the account in the 41st minute. Abhiram Pal doubled the lead two minutes after to seal the fate of the lop-sided match. Sarthak bagged the man of the match award.

 In the second match, DPS prevailed over IRC Village High School 2-0. DPS completely dominated the match scoring once each in both the halves. Star striker Dhyanendra Bhanjdeo drew first blood as early as the second minute of the match and the team went into the lemon break with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, Aditya Pradhan struck in the 32nd minute. IRC players tried their best till the final hooter, but could not open their account. Dhyanendra was adjudged the man of the match.

Police Football

Baripada, Angul, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Chhatrapur and Rourkela won their respective matches in the 74th State Police Football Championship in Bolangir, Monday.

Rourkela edged past Jajpur 2-1, while Baripada pipped Dhenkanal 1-0. Angul scraped past Khurda 2-1 and Kandhamal beat Boudh with the identical margin. Rourkela thrashed Ganjam 6-0, while Nabarangapur prevailed over hosts Bolangir 3-0. In another match, Chhatrapur got the better of Mayurbhanj 2-1.

Sportspersons feted

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) awarded eight players and two coaches with citations and cash awards in the city, Monday.

Anand Lakra received the award for his commendable contributions in hockey. Four women football players were awarded for their excellent performances. They are Kunti Kumari Lakra, Parvati Kujur, Arati Anima Khadia and Sita Sharma.

Power lifters Priyadarshini Bisoi and Pradeep Kumar Mishra, cricketer Reema Laxmi Ekka were also awarded.
Among the coaches, Raju Kant Saini and R Srikanth were honoured.

Inter-School Hockey

Punam Hockey Acadmy and Krida Bharati Cuttack will jointly organise the Cuttack Inter-School hockey tournament at the Satyabrata Stadium of the city August 29-September 13. Altogether six teams of the city will participate in the tournament.
