Rourkela: Muktikanta Biswal, who reached New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister after undertaking a ‘padayatra’ of 1,550 km to remind the latter of the promises he made to the people of Rourkela, has warned to go for a hunger strike if he fails to meet the PM.
The PM during his visit to the state in 2015 had promised to upgrade Ispat General Hospital (IGH), the lifeline of the people of Rourkela, into a medical college and super specialty hospital and to construct the second Brahmani bridge at Panposh. Biswal Thursday underwent a check-up where doctors confirmed his health condition was stable.
He will try to meet the PM and would undertake a hunger strike if his attempts did not materialise. He will seek the permission of Delhi police before taking any further steps.
Meanwhile, he met Union tribal affairs minister Jual Oram and sought his help to meet the PM. Oram however, turned down his request and refused to help him in meeting the PM stating that his campaign was a Congress-sponsored programme.
Biswal termed Oram’s statement as unfortunate saying that he is in no way linked with any political party.
Rabi Ray, the district Congress president and Gopal Jena, convenor of Rourkela Yuva Jagruti Manch have termed Oram’s move as unfortunate.
