Puri: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Sunday offered floral tributes at the cemetery of his father and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik at Swargadwar cremation ground here.
Patnaik reached Swargadwar around 11 am and laid a wreath at Biju Patnaik’s cemetery in the presence of Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Patsani, city municipality chairperson Jayant Sarangi and MLA and district planning board chairperson Sameer Ranjan Das.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated a photo exhibition on Biju Patnaik, which has been organised by district information and public relations department, at the Town Hall here.
The Chief Minister later inaugurated a blood donation camp organised by the district unit of Biju Janata Dal (BJD), at Gopabandhu Ayurved Mahavidyalaya here. Around 300 units of blood were collected at the camp, according to BJD sources.
Puri MP Pinaki Mishra, local MLA Maheswar Mohanty and Kakatpur MLA Surendra Sethy were among those present on the occasion. However, agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy and food supply and consumer welfare minister Sanjay Das Burma, elected from Pipli and Brahmagiri Assembly constituencies of the district respectively, were absent during the Chief Minister’s tour to the city.
Police arrested a few Congress party workers who held a demonstration at Town Hall Square to oppose Patnaik’s tour. Police had earlier detained seven Congress workers to prevent any untoward incident during the Chief Minister’s tour.
