Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s assets have gone up by about Rs 1 lakh in a year to be over Rs 49 crore, according to his declaration for 2016-17.
Patnaik has declared his movable and immovable properties worth around Rs 49, 22, 21, 637.29. There is a hike of Rs 1,05,212, as compared to his last year’s asset of Rs 49,21,16,425.
As per the statement, the Chief Minister had availed Rs 15 lakh as temporary loan from his sister Gita Mehta that he has not yet returned, the declaration statement said. Patnaik owns an Ambassador car of 1980 model worth Rs 10,477. His immovable properties included his 2/3rd share in Naveen Niwas, his residence, in Bhubaneswar; 50 per cent share in a property on APJ Abdul Kalam Road in New Delhi and a 22.7-acre farmland along with a building at Faridabad in Haryana.
Naveen also mentioned that he has a total deposit of Rs 24.5 lakh in various bank accounts including Rs 12, 17,153 in Janpath branch of Bank of India in Delhi; Rs 1,626 in SBI, Parliament House branch; Rs 12, 46,792 cash in SBI, Bhubaneswar branch; and Rs 6,071 in Hinjilicut College branch of the same bank, which he saved for 2014 election purpose. The CM is also in possession of jewellery worth Rs 2, 05,518.
Besides Naveen, 20 other members of his council of ministers also submitted their property list for 2016-17. For example, the family properties of Panchayati Raj Minister Pradeep Maharathy decreased to Rs 4.10 crore from Rs 4.17 crore last year. His own assets are worth over Rs 2.75 crore while his wife, a lecturer by profession, has acquired assets worth Rs 1.33 crore. His daughter has assets worth Rs 2.24 lakh.
Maheswar Mohanty is another crorepati in Naveen’s Cabinet. His wife owned three buses earlier and has purchased a new one on loan recently. Industry Minister Niranjan Pujari and his family have assets worth Rs 2.55 crore whileministers like Damodar Rout, Pratap Jena and Bijayshree Routray are some other rich members of Orissa Cabinet with assets worth crores.
