Keonjhar: Enraged over undeclared power cuts in the region, Keonjhar town people garlanded an official of North Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Odisha Limited (NESCO) with shoes, Monday
According to reports, members of Keonjhar Civil Society gheraoed the NESCO office here demanding no power cut in the area. The protestor also wanted the Keonjhar division of NESCO to return the Best Electrical Division Award it had received.
Failing to get an assurance from the NESCO officials, the protestors manhandled the sub-divisional officer Maheswar Sethy and forced him to wear a garland of shoes. They later freed him after getting a written assurance of no power cuts in the town.
“We are suffering in the scorching heat due to 8 to 10 hours of power cuts. The electricity officials are not accessible and they are not even paying heed to our complaints,’’ said an activist of Puruna Bazar. The activists have threatened if their demand is not met soon they will go on a hunger strike.
