Ghasipura: New guidelines for paddy procurement through online registration have created some new problems for farmers living in fringe areas of Anandapur sub division in Keonjhar district.
The bone of contention: it was made mandatory for farmers to sell off their paddy within their districts. Earlier, farmers having farmlands on borders areas of Bhadrak, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj districts used to sell their paddy at the nearest cooperative societies. The new guidelines have put them in trouble while they have not yet done online registration for procurement process.
After the new guidelines were in force, farmers of bordering areas like Daradipal, Keshdurpal, Deogan, Anandapur, Shailang, Jalasua, Baliapal, Kendua, Kansa, Dipapal, Barmal, Baripal, Jarindapal, Tolaknendi, Tulasipur, Khalpal, Champapal, Karanjiapal, and Manitri are in confusion about where they have to sell off their paddy.
The cooperative officials are supposed to intervene in the matter and remove the confusion of farmers. District registrar of cooperative societies, Pramod Kumar Baria said that he was well aware of the problem.
“As per the government decision, farmers are only allowed to sell off their paddy at cooperative societies within their district,” he added.
The last date for the registration was earlier fixed September 10. But the government had extended the deadline for the online registration of farmers under Paddy Procurement Automation System (P-PAS). For purchase of the surplus crop during the 2019-20 Kharif marketing season, the date has been extended till September 17.
Farmers can go to primary agriculture cooperative societies or pani panchayats to complete their registrations. The procurement process will begin from November 1.
