Khurda: A newly-married couple committed suicide here Thursday night over arguments regarding dowry. They were found hanging inside a room at Sananairi village under Chilika Block in this late Thursday night. The deceased have been identified as Sanatana Sahu (22) and his wife Shibani Jena (19). The two had tied the nuptial knot two months back and was staying in the house on rent.
Locals said that recently problems between the two surfaced regarding dowry. There was an altercation Thursday and Shibani committed hanged herself.
Coming to know about Shibani’s death, her family lodged a complaint with the police naming Santana as the main accused. Fearing arrest, Santana also then hanged himself.
Police reached the spot after villagers informed them about the incident. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and a forensic team is probing the matter. Police said that the exact timing of the deaths will only be known after the post-mortem.
