Bhubaneswar, Feb 22: The menace of Aedes mosquitoes has continued to haunt people in the state and has claimed its first victim of the year Sunday.
A nine-year-old girl of Puri died in a private hospital here after reportedly being diagnosed dengue positive at Capital Hospital here.
However, the Health department is yet to confirm the death. The girl who had been suffering from prolonged fever was recently admitted to the Capital Hospital where she was diagnosed dengue positive. Later, she was shifted to a private hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Dengue assumed endemic dimensions last year and claimed nine lives. Initially, it was thought to be under control, but towards the end of the year, the situation went out of control. This has continued even now in the beginning of this year as the state has recorded 25 dengue positive cases as against nine during the corresponding period of 2014.
