Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Utkal University has slipped to 93rd spot in the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023, which is a downfall from its past ranking of 88th.
The university has secured a score of 43.45 as per the latest NIRF parameters.
Earlier, Utkal University had fallen from ‘A+’ to ‘A’ grade in the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) grading.
The university scored a 3.16 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) on the assessment resulting in the loss of its ‘A+’ accreditation that it had secured in the assessment by NAAC in 2016.
Apart from Utkal University, no other public university from Odisha has managed to secure a rank within the top 100 university list of NIRF.
Similarly, not a single government college from the state managed to feature in the top 100 college list.
This has raised concern regarding the condition of higher education in Odisha.
Siksha `O` Anusandhan and Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) bagged 15th and 16th spots respectively in the university category ranking of NIRF. Both are private institutions located in Bhubaneswar.
KIIT has also secured a rank of 29 in the overall category in the ranking.
It can be mentioned here that this year the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras retained the top spot in the National Institute Ranking Framework, 2023 for the fifth consecutive year, while the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru was ranked as the best university, according to Ministry of Education.
IISc Bengaluru has bagged the second spot in the overall category followed by IIT Delhi.
Among the engineering institutions, IIT Madras retained the top spot for the eighth consecutive year. IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay have been ranked as second and third respectively in the category.
Notably, NIRF ranking evaluates institutions on five broad generic groups of parameters, i.e. Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcome (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR).
