Bhubaneswar: Taking strong exception to the burning of Orissa POST copies inside Secretariat premises, the state government warned various Secretariat employees’ associations not to hold such kind of protests inside the premises in future.
The home department wrote a letter to general secretaries of all associations formed by various groups of Secretariat employees in this regard.
“It has come to notice that the office bearers of Orissa Secretariat Service Association along with around 150 members chanted slogans, delivered speech and burnt English daily newspaper Orissa POST, May 19 inside Secretariat premises which created an unhealthy practice,” the home department said in its letter.
The government asked the associations to not conduct demonstrations, meetings, strike in front of the main building, finance department lawn, finance department tunnel and home department tunnel. “In future, if any association repeats the aforesaid activities, action as deemed proper will be taken,” the government warned.
Sources said if the associations undertakes any activities that violate the norms and regulations prescribed by the government for the Secretariat employees, the government would derecognise the concerned association. Besides, the government may also take strong action like suspension or dismissal of concerned officials, the sources said.
The members of the Secretariat Service Association May 19 this year had burnt OP copies inside Secretariat in protest against a news item. The association members shouted slogans against the paper and the scribe who wrote the article.
