HOUSES WILL BE BUILT IN 27 URBAN LOCAL BODIES OF 10 DISTRICTS
Bhubaneswar: In a bid to provide housing facility to the urban poor, the state government has sanctioned 5,133 houses under Orissa Urban Housing Mission (OUHM).
The state-level sanctioning and monitoring committee of OUHM headed by Chief Secretary A P Padhi has approved a proposal of `156.40 crore for the purpose here Friday.
The houses will be constructed in 27 urban local bodies (ULBs) of 10 districts. With the sanctioning of the new projects, the state has so far sanctioned 54,275 houses in favour of economically weaker sections living in 113 ULBs of the state.
Considering the progress in this regard, Padhi directed the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) department to intensify the field level supervision and expedite the rate of completion of the houses.
H&UD secretary G Mathivathanan said that fund support to the beneficiaries is being provided within two days of the uploading of the photos of the houses under construction.
Each house is being geo-tagged. So far `103.5 crore has been released to the beneficiaries with zero pendency for payment at OUHM level, he said.
Official sources said around 49,142 houses were sanctioned in between July 2016 and October 2017 in four different phases. Till now work order has been issued against 24,117 houses. However, only 300 have been completed so far, sources said.
The sanction order of additional 20,345 houses was communicated to ULBs during November 2017.
Each house is estimated to be around `3 lakh. Out of this, `1.5 lakh is provided by the Centre and `50,000 is being provided by the state government while remaining 1 lakh is borne by the beneficiary.
The government is providing `40,000 to the beneficiary at the level of foundation, `60,000 after completion of the plinth, `60,000 for roof casting and finally `40,000 for finishing works.
