Malkangiri: Not all heroes wear capes, sometimes they just wear camouflaged uniforms. The saying has become quite popular here after three BSF jawans saved the lives of two pregnant women in Mathili block in Malkangiri district.
They reached the Malkangiri district headquarters hospital (DHH) in the nick of time, donated blood and brought the lost smile back on the faces of the women’s relatives.
The jawans did the noble act Friday but they have since been regarded as the real heroes who are not only saving people lives and properties by doing away with all sorts of Maoists activities in the region but also lending their names to various social causes.
Muye Sodi, a resident of Kaikigudda village of Temurupalli panchayat under Mathili block, went into labour Friday. She was immediately rushed to Malkangiri DHH.
There the doctors attending her asked her family members to arrange a unit of A + blood for her. The blood bank in the district has been running short of blood for some months. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the process of blood collection has been severely affected as no blood donation camp is being organised lately.
The family members ran from pillar to post to get a unit of the required blood group. All their efforts failed, leaving them in despair.
A jawan of 160 BSF Battalion stationed at MV-3, Rabindra Kumar Nayak, somehow came to know about Muye and came forward to help the family in distress.
He donated a unit of A + blood and saved the life of Muye.
On the same day, two other BSF jawans – Sandeep Kumar and Indrajit Singh – too came out as knights in shining armour and saved the life of another pregnant woman. Chhabi Nayak of Kansariput village under the same panchayat was experiencing labour pain and her family members as per the doctors’ advice were frantically searching for a unit of blood. It was then Sandeep and Indrajit reached the DHH, donated blood and thus saved the life Chhabi.
Local residents have since been looking up to these three jawans for what they did for Muye and Chhabi.
