Odia play shows the bright side of ageing

Bidyakanak Srujanusthan’s 5th National Theatre Festival 2023: Day 1

 

Bhubaneswar: The five-day Fifth National Theatre Festival-2023, organised by City’s one of the prominent drama troupes, Bidyakanak Srujanusthan, kicked off here at Rabindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar, Sunday.

On the first day, the host organisation presented the Odia play Aei Bodhe Prema. Written by Dilip Balabantaray and directed by Jagadish Prasad Maharana, the drama showcased how old age can be enjoyed despite its shares of physical pain and suffering.  The climax of the play told that nothing is more eternal than death. Once a person is in its hold, he or she can’t belong to anyone else.

The actors who performed included Nabin Parida, Suvakanta Padhi, Rakesh Satpathy, Debashis Rout, Sunanda Parida and others while Manas Kumar Parida scored the music.

Among the dignitaries, State Science & Technology Minister Ashok Chandra Panda, Nalco Managing Director Sridhar Patra, dramatist Dhirendra Nath Mallick, president of the troupe Sudhakar Patri were present on the occasion.

Noted theatre directors Susmita Rana, Sushil Pattnaik and journalist Manoranjan Mohanty were felicitated for their contributions to the state’s art and culture.
