Bhubaneswar: Family members of a brain-dead woman in Odisha donated her organs that would save lives of seven patients, a source said Sunday.
The woman has been identified as Krishna Panda (56) who was from Berhampur town in the state.
Panda was admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar November 1 after sustaining severe injuries in a road accident.
The next day, Panda was diagnosed to have developed severe traumatic brain injuries and was, later, declared brain dead, the doctor who attended to her informed.
As the condition posed little chance of revival, her family members provided consent for organ donation.
The doctor added that the process for multi-organ harvesting and donation began following the approval by State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO).
Notably, two lungs, two kidneys and a liver were harvested from Panda. However, the heart could not be harvested due to some issues. The harvested organs were transported to Chennai, Kolkata, and SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
