Bhubaneswar: Odisha government Saturday placed orders for 5,000 sachets of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) developed and anti-Covid drug 2DG, a source said.
Notably, first batch of the DRDO-developed adjunct Covid therapy and anti-Covid drug (2-deoxy-D-glucose or 2DG) was earlier released by the Defence Minister, Government of India Rajnath Singh May 17, this year. It was then handed over to Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan in New Delhi.

The 2DG was approved for distribution to different hospitals across India for use in emergent situations. The anti-Covid-19 therapeutic application of the drug has been developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) which is a research lab of the DRDO, along with Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL) in Hyderabad.
