Koraput: A whopping 1,259 kilogram of ganja worth over Rs 1 crore was seized by Machkund police from the house of Ghenu Khada at Khadaput village in Odisha’s Koraput district, a source said Wednesday.
According to the source, the cannabis was stored at Khada’s house and was to be transported outside Odisha.
Acting on a reliable tip-off, Machkund police raided the house and seized the contraband. However, Khada managed to escape, the source added.
Machkund police have registered a case (32/2023) under Section 20(b)(ii)(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in this connection and a manhunt is on to nab the accused.
In January this year, police arrested seven persons and seized over 20 kilogram of ganja being smuggled in school bags in Koraput district.
