Baripada: A woman allegedly sold her eight-month-old daughter for Rs800 in Mahulia village under Khunta police limits of Mayurbhanj district, a source said Tuesday.
The woman was identified as Karami Murmu.
According to the source, Karami’s husband Mushu – who works in Tamil Nadu – was not present at home when she sold the child about one month back.
Mushu came to know of the incident when he visited home recently, the source added. He lodged an FIR following his futile efforts to find the infant.
Subsequently, police launched an investigation and arrested Karami and Phulamani Marandi – the person who allegedly bought the girl child.
On the other hand, Karami said that she had sold her daughter due to her inability to raise her. Karami has another daughter as well.
