Kendrapara: One passenger died and 34 others, including women, were injured, four of them seriously, when van they were travelling in rolled down and overturned near Mangalpur on Jamboo-Canal bridge road under Mahakalapara police limits.
Police identified the deceased as Chotaray Khilar of Pravakarpur village. IIC Shyamaghan Behera said the driver lost control on the wheels while giving side to an auto-rickshaw and rolled down on the road. The pick-up van carrying 35 labourers from Jamboo area was on its way to
Pattamundai when the accident occurred.
While 17 seriously injured including 12 women were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack and rest were admitted to the district headquarters hospital. Five of the injured were discharged from the hospital after treatment.
Police seized the pick-up van.
