Anandpur: At least one person died and six others sustained injuries after an auto-rickshaw carrying them hit an ambulance van at Chianbeda Square on Anandpur-Karanjia Road in Keonjhar district Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Shyamsundar Ho (30), the driver of the auto-rickshaw.
According to reports, a group of passengers Kathakata village had gone to watch an opera staged in the ‘Gahalamunda Jatra’ and were returning home when the mishap took place.
The impact of the crash was so intense that the auto-rickshaw got completely mangled.
While Shyamsundar died on the spot, the injured were rushed to Anandpur sub-divisional hospital by police.
One of the injured persons has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack because of the critical condition.
