Jatni: A 25-year-old man was hacked to death and three of his family members were critically injured in an attack late Saturday night, over past rivalry. The deceased was identified as Anup Behera of Sandhapur under Jatni police limits.
According to reports, Anup’s brother Sandeep and Swarup and his mother Meena are undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital. The family was attacked due to bitter relationships of two families of the village, said the police.
The incident occurred when Anup was going to his shop after having dinner at night. A group of people, 10 to 11 in number, intercepted and attacked him with sharp weapons. When Anup fell off his motorcycle the attackers crushed his head with a piece of stone.
On hearing the uproar, the victim’s family rushed to rescue him but the attackers did not spare them too and fled the spot. The injured were rushed to a local hospital where doctors declared Anup brought dead.
A team led by DCP Satyabrata Bhoi collected the weapons used in the attack and other evidence from the spot.
In a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, the police have registered a case (340/17) against 11 accused of the same village. The police also detained two persons in this regard and investigation is underway.
