Talcher: The 52nd State Level Shooting Championships got underway at the King Hrudaya Chandra Dev Shooting Complex here, Wednesday. The meet was inaugurated by Orissa Post Editor and MP Tathagata Satpathy. BJD MLA from Talcher, Braja Kishore Pradhan was also present during the occasion.
Speaking during the inaugural ceremony, Satpathy promised all help to the Talcher Rifle Club. “The club should not just limit itself to hosting one or two competitions. It should become an institution for the development of shooters in Orissa. I am ready to assist in the development of this club in any way I can,” said Satpathy.
The Championships which started Wednesday will end Friday. On the opening day of the competition, shooters participated in the .22 bore rifle standing, 50 metres prone position and 10m Air Rifle events.
Other events: (Thursday) Pistol (25m) and Smooth Bore Pistol (25m); (Friday) .22 Bore rifle (50m, team), Open Bore (50m), Smooth Bore and 12 Bore (25m).
Double crown
KIIT University put up a good show to clinch the titles in the men’s tennis and women’s chess in the East Zone Inter-University Championships at their own Sports Complex in Bhubaneswar. The meet concluded, Wednesday. Top four teams of each sports discipline qualified for the All India National University Championships.
The hosts also finished runners-up in the women’s basketball and
tennis while they finished third in the men’s chess and fourth in men’s table tennis.
