Balasore, Jan 24: Orissa players performed splendidly on the inaugural day of the first Balasore All India Fide Rating Chess Tournament (below 1800 elo points) here Saturday. After the end of the fifth round, six Orissa players are sharing the lead with four points each. They are Pranab Kumar Patra, Susobhit Das, Sanjib Kumar Mohanta, Rajat Kumar Sahoo, Ashok Kumar Jaju and Soumya Ranjan Sahoo. Joining them at the top of the leader board are Tirtha Sarkar from West Bengal, Deepak Batra (Punjab) and Sandil Nirmal Chandra (Jharkhand).
There are six players in second spot with 3.5 points each and the same numbers are tied in the third position with three points apiece. A total of 203 players from 15 states are taking part in this tournament
