Vadodara: After a long hiatus of 15 years Orissa made it to the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy with 22 points after Delhi, one of the most heavyweight teams of the domestic circuit, Saturday made an inglorious exit, losing to Saurashtra by four runs in their final group B league encounter here.
Orissa’s eastern zone neighbours Jharkhand (32) also entered the last eight stage of the competition. While both teams will play their final group league encounter against each other, the result of the matches will not change the position as Jharkhand and Orissa will finish second and third respectively.
Orissa skipper Govind Poddar expressed pleasure over the development. “We have worked extremely hard for the season. We will try to perform our best in the quarterfinal,” Govind stated.
Karnataka (37 points) topped the group B while Mumbai (30), Gujarat (26) and Tamil Nadu (26) qualified from group A. Hyderabad (31) and Haryana (31) completed the quarter-final tally from group C.
