Bhubaneswar, Jan 19: The Orissa State Commission for Women (OSCW) Monday submitted its 2013-14 annual report to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Commission chairperson Lopamudra Baxipatra and minister for women and child development Usha Devi submitted the report to the Chief Minister at the Secretariat here.
The commission has also submitted a report on ‘Status of Women in Prisons in Orissa’ in which the commission has stated about the status of such women and has given several recommendations for improving their living conditions in jail.
“We conducted a survey on the living conditions of imprisoned women and found that facilities need to be improved to enhance their living conditions,” Baxipatra said.
“In our report we have made recommendations in several areas such as focusing more on nutritional values in food given to them and their children in jail, adult education, proper legal aid, expansion of skill development programmes and so on,” the OSCW chairperson said.
“We have also recommended the government for creating a linkage between women policies and schemes such as Mamata Yojana with these imprisoned women so they can also avail government facilities existing for women in the state,” Baxipatra added.
“The report suggests improving of health, education and skill development facilities for these women which is the need of the hour,” Usha Devi said.
Baxipatra and Devi also submitted a list of guidelines which the commission has framed for service providers who provide services to women against rape and sexual harassment and other similar issues.
