Telkoi: Hundred of sacks of paddy lying stocked outside the Telkoi Cooperative Society in Keonjhar district got wet in rain Saturday night, leading to tension among farmers.
According to reports, the society has refused to procure paddy as the civil supplies department has not yet issued the procurement target.
The society usually procures paddy from farmers in Telkoi, Sirigida, Benamunda and Deulidiha.
Farmer Dillip Kumar lamented that the unseasonal rain has played spoilsport for their harvested crop.
Managing director of the cooperative society Keshab Chandra Sahu said the society can’t buy paddy unless the authorities give target.
District civil supplies officer Artatrana Barik said paddy will be procured in a phased manner.
