Cuttack, Dec 16: A meeting to finalise the place for setting up of Ravenshaw Junior College here, was held at the state secretariat in Bhubaneswar, Monday.
According to sources, the meeting was attended by Ravenshaw University registrar Padam Jena, Higher Education secretary Gagan Dhal, Cuttack deputy collector (Revenue) Bibhuti Bhusan Das, Cuttack sadar tehsildar Abanikanta Patanaik and others.
According to official sources, no site has yet been decided for setting up of the junior college. However, two places, one near Malgodown and another near Jobra are under consideration. The committee entrusted with the task of finalising the location has been asked by the Orissa High Court to zero in on a suitable place and notify it.
Meanwhile, a section of students and teachers of the junior college are opposed to the shifting. The decision to shift the junior college and suggest a suitable location was taken in view of overcrowding on the Ravenshaw University campus here from where the institution is currently functioning.
Those in favour of shifting the junior college feel that a separate campus will help the smooth administration and functioning of the leading educational institution of the state. Sources said, the committee will soon meet state chief secretary GC Pati and hold discussions with the latter on the issue.
