With heavy rains are continuing and water levels rising people in riparian villages fear floods.

Floodwater from Baitarani flowed through the Kantighai escape. Many areas are water-logged. The water is flowing two feet above the road connecting Gadiapokhari and Chasajamipur and the Bhandaripokhari-Maninathpur PWD Road at Rahania. Transport links with these areas have been disrupted. Water flowed over the Sartanala Bridge at Malda.

Meanwhile, the block administration has engaged members of the Biju Yuba Bahini and panchayat executive officers at Malda, Sholampur, Rahania, Kurigan, Napang, Ranjit, Bandala, Balipokhari and Jhutana panchayats. A close watch is being maintained on the floods in these areas, said BDO Banamali Tarai.

A house collapsed in Maninathpur killing a cow. Hundreds of hectares of farmland were flooded in Bhagada, Samana, Sampei, Bhutia, Naryayanpur, Rejendrapur and Sanasasan.

In Basudevpur municipality Ward-2 has become waterlogged. If the water fails to drain out from the area the mud houses may collapse, locals said. The people of Ward-2 urged civic authorities to take immediate steps for draining out the water.
