Bhubaneswar, June 28: The 47th annual Banichitra Cine Awards for Oriya Cinema and small screen were given in a glittering function held at the Rabindra Mandap here, Sunday.
The show was attended by the who’s who of the Oriya film industry, theatre and television. Thousands of cine lovers thronged the venue to get a glimpse of their favourite actors and actresses.
The super hit Oriya movie ‘Aame Ta Toka Sandha Marka’ received the best film award among films released in 2014. Apart from receiving the best film award, the movie also bagged the best director award for R Bhagatsingh, the best actor in the leading role male award for Tatwa Prakash Sathpathy, popularly known as Papu Pom Pom and best actor in the leading role female award for Koyal Mishra.
The superhit pair of the Oriya film industry, Sabyasachi Mishra and Archita Sahu, got the best popular actor male and female awards respectively, for their romantic movie Smile Please.
Shakti Baral was declared the best screen playwright for Daddy and the best music director award went to Abhijit Majumdar for the movie Smile Please.
Around 45 personalities from the film, theater, television and other related areas received awards for their contribution to the field of art and culture.
While Veteran cine artist and theatre personality, Ajit Das, got the lifetime achievement award for his contribution to the Oriya film industry, Pradyumna Lenka, who had acted in more than 200 movies, got the Dhirendra Nath Biswal Samman.
A panel of jury, which included film critics, veteran artists and directors, decided the winners for this year’s Banichitra Cine Awards.
Attending the program as the chief guest, Orissa Film Development Corporation, chairman Mona Khan said, “The industry has given many veteran artists, directors and musicians, who had brought laurels for the state. We hope that the industry would produce many more such artists.”
Ex-finance minister, Prafulla Ghadei, producer Amya Patnaik, chief editor of Banichitra, Parikhita Jena were among the other persons who spoke on the occasion. The award ceremony was followed by a colourful dance and music performance by kids, who had participated in various reality shows.
