Rourkela: In a bizarre incident, family members of a minor girl who died from snakebite Saturday forcibly took her body from the morgue of a hospital here by breaking open the main door lock as they ‘believed’ she will be resurrected in 21 days through sorcery.
As per reports, Sohani Singh, daughter of Devraj Singh, was bitten by a poisonous snake at Sonaparbat near Fertiliser Township, Saturday evening. The parents brought the kid to the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) for treatment where the doctors pronounced her dead. The hospital authorities shifted the body to the morgue. However, the deceased girl’s mother was not ready to accept the death. She was adamant that she would be alive after 21 days through sorcery. At around 8pm Saturday, the parents of the deceased girl broke open the lock of the morgue and took away her body and left for their home. When the hospital authorities discovered that the body was missing Sunday morning, they informed Tangarpalli police about the incident. For the police, the issue was sensitive as the girl was a tribal. They held discussions with some influential people of the region and finally managed to persuade the parents to leave the body. The body was brought back to RGH and later post-mortem was done. Speaking about the incident, Tangarpalli IIC Rameswar Singh said, “We finally got the body and handed it over for postmortem.”
