Parliament adjourned due to Karunanidhi’s death

New Delhi: Both the Houses of the Parliament Wednesday saw adjournment for the whole day on account of the sad demise of the DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi in Tamil Nadu. The businesses of the Houses were stalled by paying tribute to him.

As soon as the Parliament resumed its business at 11 in the morning, the Speaker of Lok Sabha Sumitra Mahajan and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha adjourned the Houses after reading out the obituary reference while the present parliamentarians prayed for the peace of the soul while observing silence in the House.

Both the Houses will now resume again on Thursday, a day before the culminating day of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament.

According to the Revised List of Business of Lok Sabha for Wednesday, several bills were listed for consideration which included-The Central Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2018, The Integrated Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2018, The Union Territory GST (Amendment) Bill, 2018, The GST (Compensation to States) Amendment Bill, 2018, The Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Bill, 2018, The Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill, 2017 and the The Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill, 2018 are likely to be taken up for debate for passing.
