Jeypore: Police Sunday registered a case against Dr Manoranjan Behera, a physician who runs a clinic in this town, after he had a fight with an owner of a diagnostic centre.
Lab owner Sushil Sabat has also been booked for his alleged misbehavior with a lady assistant of the doctor. Police began a probe into the incident.
Meanwhile, a patient was found at the receiving end due to the conflict between the doctor and the lab owner, it was learnt.
According to reports, Mohd Imtiaz Ali of KBSD Road took his ailing son to Dr Behera’s clinic at Tarini Chhak. The doctor prescribed different types of blood tests for the patient who was suffering from fever. Ali went to the diagnostic centre run by Sushil Sabat who happens to be the father Dr Sital Sabat, a physician, to get the blood examined.
However, the lab technicians found the ‘advice’ written in some ‘code words’ which was difficult to decipher for them. Left with no option, they conducted the routine tests which are required for a patient suffering from fever and handed over the report to the patient’s father.
As Ali showed the report to Dr Behera, the latter rejected it saying the tests were not conducted as per his prescription.
Sushil accompanied by his daughter Dr Sital confronted Dr Behera.
Both the parties had a heated exchange of words over the issue and ended up beating up each other. Two separate cases were registered in this regard.
Meanwhile, investigating officer SI Shiv Shankar Sahoo said further action would be taken after a consultation with the SP.
It has been a practice with doctors in Jeypore to reject diagnosis report unless the tests are conducted at their preferred laboratories, some patients alleged.
The doctors of the town are looting patients in the name of service, they added.
