Nuapada/Chhatrapur: A 14-year-old boy ruptured his right eye while four other children were rendered critical in separate incidents of mobile phone explosion in Nuapada and Ganjam districts Monday.
The first incident occurred when Krutibas Majhi, 14, a class VIII student was charging his mobile phone by plugging the charger to a switch board at his Kalimati house under Komna police station limits in Nuapada district. Majhi noticed his phone was fully charged when he tried to pull the charger out but it went off and a splinter hit his right eye.
Profusely bleeding, he was admitted to the district headquarters hospital under the care of Dr Biraj Shankar Rath. He was later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur.
In the second incident four children were hurt, one of them critically, when a cell phone battery exploded at Lunghuri in Ganjam district. They were identified as Krushna Sahu, 7, Lapili Sahu, 5, Bhola Nahak, 8 and Anajali Nahak, 7.
The condition of Krushna, son of Sabar Sahu was stated to be critical. The injured kids were rushed to Humma health centre. The incident occurred when the children were trying to make use of a battery of a defunct mobile phone.
However, the battery suddenly exploded with a loud noise injuring the four kids.
