Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: To crack down on molesters and eve-teasers targeting women revellers during New Year celebrations, the Commissionerate Police (CP) has identified vulnerable areas in the city which will be guarded by ten teams of plainclothes personnel all day.
The teams, which will include two personnel from the Armed Police Reserve (ARP) and two women constables (WCs), will be deployed in areas like Ekamra Park, Nico Park, Biju Patnaik Park, Imfa Park, Master Canteen Square, Botanical Garden at Nandankanan, Mukherjee Park, Vani Vihar, IG Park, Science Park, Gautam Budhha Park at Chandrasekharpur, and MG Park at Chandrasekhapur. An officer from the nearest police station will also be a part of the team.
In addition, police stations will intensify patrolling during the day near parks, malls and other crowded places. In the evening, patrolling parties will ensure that liquor shops and bars are closed at the stipulated time and New Year celebrations at hotels end in time. Midnight patrolling will be further intensified under various police stations.
To deter miscreants from loitering near girls’ hostels and passing lewd comments in an inebriated condition, Quick Reaction Teams (QRT) will be stationed at five different points: Master Canteen Square, Nalco square, Kalpana Square, Khandagiri Square and Rasulgarh Square.
“Around 28 locations have been identified to prevent miscreants from indulging in anti-social activity. We have made adequate security arrangements,” DGP Sanjeev Marik said.
Marik was inspecting a police control room which will monitor CCTVs installed in the city Tuesday. “The CCTV cameras will help the police in better coordination and will help keep the city safe,” Marik added.
Besides, deployment of QRT and plain cloth cops, 28 checking points have been made to catch drunken drivers.
