Lanjigarh: Police Wednesday detained an egg-laden truck at Biswanathpur under this block in Kalahandi district for allegedly supplying plastic eggs in the area.
According to reports, Gupteswar Sahoo, a small trader of Langalabeda village, bought some egg trays from Manu Patra, a trader of Biswanathpur, to sell them in the village.
A villager Chaitanya Sahoo Wednesday morning bought some eggs from Gupteswar’s shop and put them in boiling water. However, to his surprise, the eggs were found to have made of plastic. While Chaitanya returned the eggs to Gupteswar, the latter lodged a complaint with Lanjigarh police over the issue.
Based on the complaint, ASI Rajendra Kumar Mohapatra reached the spot and seized the eggs. He also detained the truck which brought the eggs to the shop of Patra. It is worthwhile to note that all Anganwadi workers of Lanjigarh block procure eggs from Manu Patra’s shop to feed children.
Meanwhile, other traders who had purchased eggs from Patra have hidden them, it was learnt. On the other hand, the trader said the eggs available in Biswanathpur and Ambadola were supplied by Siddharth Poultry Farm of Vizianagaram and Tatbabu of Parvatipuram in Andhra Pradesh. Facts would come to the light only once the investigations are over, the ASI said. PNN
