Bhubaneswar, Jan 20: Special Chief Judicial Magistrate (CBI) court here Tuesday rejected a petition filed by Jharpada jail authorities to relocate Ranjan Dash, owner of ponzi firm Swastik India Multi-State, who was arrested by the Central agency in connection with the multi-thousand crore rupee chit fund scam, to Choudwar jail on health grounds.
The court directed Jharpada jail authorities to provide treatment to Das at Cuttack while keeping him where he is imprisoned.
The Jharpada jail authorities had informed the court that Dash has been suffering from oral cancer which is in a preliminary stage, he is being taken to Acharya Harihar Cancer Research Institute (AHCRI) in Cuttack frequently.
Earlier, the jail authority had stressed if Dash was shifted to Choudwar jail then it would be convenient for them to provide him better medical care.
“Dash needs to be taken frequently to AHCRI for treatment. If he is shifted to Choudwar, it would be convenient for authorities to provide him better medical care,” superintendent of Jharpada jail, Rabindranath Swain said.
Sources said Dash informed his family that the Jharpada jail authorities were not providing him regularly the medicines prescribed by his doctor and said he was being denied access to proper medical care.
