Cuttack: Taking strong action against police excess, Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh Thursday suspended two constables and a Havildar in connection with the attack on a lawyer by police at Nua Bazaar bridge here Tuesday morning.
The DCP suspended constables BK Samal and U K Bhuyan and Havildar P K Behera for police excesses. Besides, a one-month notice has been served to Home Guard Kishore Samal seeking his explanation, following which necessary action would be taken, informed Singh at a Press meet here Thursday.
He further said, “Four cases have been lodged in connection with the incident. Inspector (Crime) is conducting an inquiry into the incident under the supervision of Additional DCP. Action would be taken if anyone found to be guilty.”
On the other hand, the High Court Bar Association Thursday resorted to a cease-work today protesting the ‘police atrocities’. As per the bar association’s call, lawyers in Bhubaneswar staged a road blockade by burning tyres near the Khurda District and Sessions Judge Court at Kalpana Square in Bhubaneswar.
