Sundargarh: A security guard was arrested by police for allegedly stealing four magazines and 60 rounds of live bullets from Sundargarh district police armoury amid tight security Saturday.
Briefing mediapersons at a press meet, Sundargarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Soumya Mishra said, “The arrested policeman is Gulshan Kiro. After the ammunition theft, I directed the reserve police inspector to lodge a complaint with Town police. Acting on the complaint, Town police registered a case bearing number -256/2018 and started investigation into the matter”.
“During investigation, Town police unraveled the truth after they interrogated APR Kiro who was on duty at that time,” said the SP.
Kiro was sacked from his duty and arrested by police for his alleged involvement in the theft.
Police also seized 4 magazines and 60 live bullets which he had kept hidden in the reserve police campus.
Apprehending disruption in the investigation process to ascertain the motive behind the ammunition theft, Mishra didn’t reveal all details during the presser.
However, Mishra denied Kiro’s link with any of the criminal organizations.
Meanwhile, show cause notices in this connection were also issued to three Havildars who were on duty during the theft.
