Bhubaneswar, June 27: Mahila police Monday registered a case against comedian Pappu Pom Pom and his aide, a day after asking the child welfare committee (CWC) to initiate an inquiry into a minor girl’s allegations that they had molested her.
Tatwa Prakash Satpathy alias Papu Pom Pom and his aide Pradipta Kumar Swain alias Gitu were charged under section 354 (a) (sexual harassment), 506 (insult to woman’s modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of IPC and section 8 and 12 of POCSO Act.
Friends Friendship Trust (FTT), an NGO working for child rights, first lodged a complaint with Mahila police June 25 demanding an inquiry into the allegation by a minor girl that Papu molested her in his car on the pretext of talking about a film project. When she had rejected his sexual advances, the actor’s aide Gitu allegedly assaulted her and said he will kill her, the girl had alleged.
The Mahila police Sunday wrote to the CWC, asking it to conduct an inquiry into the case.
The CWC Monday began its probe and wrote to DCP to provide protection to the girl. It also asked the child development project officer to counsel the minor girl.
A case was registered late Monday evening.
However, Pom Pom has fled the city, sources said.
The issue has heightened the woes of the politician-turned-actor who had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Assembly election on a BJD ticket from Champua. The ruling party has also drawn flak over the issue.
The actor had earlier put the ruling party in the dock by admitting to have taken a loan of Rs 3.94 lakh from the arrested head of ponzi firm Oscar Group, Prabhas Rout, during the election period.
