Bhubaneswar: Amid fear of a possible power crisis the state government has decided to take ‘Power banking’ route to meet state’s electricity needs in the coming days till June.
The state requires 3700-4100 MW power during peak hours in summer. The government has been buying 450 to 500 MW power from Punjab and Delhi through power banking, Energy department sources said.
According to sources, the state government has plans to procure at least 400 MW power from states especially from Delhi, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh through power banking.
Energy department officials say the state will procure 200MW power from PSPCL, Punjab, though ‘power banking’ in April and May. Likewise, the state will also receive 61 MW power from PSEB, Punjab, in May.
In order to meet energy needs, Gridco has been taking 100 MW power from TPDDL, New Delhi, from November 2015 which will continue to provide power to state through power banking till the end of the current month.
The power grid corporation has also been procuring 150 MW power from Vedanta and 80 MW power from GMR.
Officials said, the government has planned to import 75 MW power from HPSEB in June though power banking.
Besides, the government will also procure power from captive power plants as per the summer requirements in the coming days to prevent outage.
Energy department sources said the department may convene a meeting in the fourth week of April to chalk out plans for energy procurement in May and June.
