Bhubaneswar, Oct 15: Pramila Kirsani of Orissa was adjudged the best lifter in the junior category of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships which concluded Thursday at Pune.
She bagged a gold medal in the junior 58kg category while bagging a silver in the 58kg segment for seniors. Approximately 139 weightlifters from 22 countries participated in the mega event.
Eves beat Goa
Orissa edged past Goa 2-1 in their second match of the quarterfinal round in the Junior National Girls’ Football Championship at Margao, Thursday.
The hosts drew first blood in the 11th minute. However their joy was shortlived as the visitors restored parity after just seven minutes through Sasmita Behera. Both the teams went into the lemon break with the scorecard reading 1-1.
After the change of ends, both the teams played aggressively. But Orissa were more opportunistic as they scored five minutes into the second half through Swarna Priya Nayak. They played out the remaining time defensively ensuring victory.
RFC spank GGP
Taimon Menon Singh and Vaiphi Singh scored a brace each to help Regional Football Club (RFC) thrash GGP 4-0 in a Group D match of the Gati Krushna Memorial Football League at the Unit-I Boys’ HS Ground here Thursday.
Taimon scored in the ninth and 47th minutes respectively, while Vaiphi struck in the 31st and 36th minutes.
Friday’s match: Tiger Youth Club vs Silicon Institute.
Umpire appointed
Hockey India appointed Nishan Jyoti Mohanty of Orissa, Thursday, as an umpire for the Chotanagpur Women’s hockey tournament at Simdega, October 18-25.
