Bhubaneswar, Sept 13: Pramod Bhagat of Orissa bagged two medals including a gold and a silver medal in the Para Badminton World Championships which was conducted at the Mandeville Stadium in Stoke City, England. Pramod clinched the yellow metal in the lower- singles 3 category and finished runners-up in the doubles SL-3 segment.
In the singles final, Pramod came back from a set down to beat Biwak Thang of Vietnam 16-21, 21-3, 21-16. Pramod had beaten Daniel Bithel of England in the semifinal to enter the summit clash.
In the doubles final, Pramod and Tarun were beaten by compatriots Manoj Sarkar and Anand Kumar 21-7, 14-21, 6-21.
After his feat in England, Pramod’s international medal tally has increased to 11. He belongs to Atabira of Baragarh district.
Two rowers selected
Two rowers from Orissa have been selected in the Indian senior team for the Asian Rowing Championship at Beijing, September 24-28. They are Sanjukta Dung Dung and Manjula Xess. Both were selected to the side on the basis of their performance at the training camp in Hyderabad. Sanjukta will participate in the coxless fours event while Manjula will take part in coxless pairs. The Indian team will depart for Beijing, September 20.

Orissa Badminton Association (OBA) selected a 19- member team for the Eastern Badminton Championships at Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, September 23-26.
