Angul: A 24-year-old pregnant woman died at Angul district headquarters hospital due to alleged medical negligence and irresponsibility of a doctor Sunday. She was identified as Anita Pradhan of Baninali village under Handpa police limits in the district.
Anita’s death sparked tension in the DHH as relatives and family members fumed over the incident. They said the death happened due to doctor’s irresponsibility and demanded immediate actions against him.
Sources said family members admitted Anita to the DHH after she experienced labour pain Sunday morning. Later, Anita gave birth to a baby boy. However, her condition grew critical after the delivery. Instead of attending to her, the doctor referred her to a hospital in Bhubaneswar or Cuttack.
Later, Anita breathed her last while preparations were being made to shift her to Bhubaneswar. The newborn was placed at SNCU.
Meanwhile, family members alleged that Anita had to undergo the Caesarean Section by anesthesia. The overdose in anesthesia is the reason of Anita’s death, family members alleged. Additional district medical officer (family welfare) Dr Gouri Shankar Bal said there was no medical negligence. There were complications during the delivery, she added. PNN
