Barang: Land demarcation survey for the purpose of establishing a Skill India Training Centre here came to a halt Friday after scores of people from Dadhapatana panchayat opposed the move and entered into a heated argument with the survey team.
The people demanded that the government reconsider establishing the centre elsewhere in the Barang area.
According to sources, the Central government has started the process of land demarcation on a five-acre plot near Sitaram Bazaar to establish a skill development training centre.
However the locals are strictly against the government’s decision to establish the training centre on the particular patch of grazing land.
They have alleged that the government has decided to establish the centre without rehabilitating the landless families residing in the area. The people also claimed that the poor families have also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard.
Besides, the locals also stated that the dilapidated structure of Chudanga Gada Fort, which is in the same area, is yet to be restored by the Archeological Survey of India (ASI).
“After the ASI constructed a boundary wall around the fort, the particular piece of land has been handed over for establishment of the training centre,” said a local.
Expressing displeasure over the government’s decision, locals argued that instead of building the training centre here the government should reconsider establishing it somewhere in Barang area, as large patches of land are lying vacant there.
Later, Barang police and Zone ACP reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
