Puri: After Japanese Encephalitis (JE) claimed the lives nearly 50 kids in Malkinagiri district, the state government had decided to start an immunisation programme for the vector-borne disease from December this year in the worst-affected districts.
Food supplies and consumer welfare minister Sanjay Kumar Das Burma informed that Puri will be included in the first phase of immunisation for the vector-borne disease.
People in four other districts –Malkanagiri, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar – will also be immunised in the first phase.
A child of Bengama village of Brahmania panchayat under Brahmagiri block was reportedly suffering from JE since September 19. The victim breathed his last earlier this week.
To check the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis, a high level meeting was held at the circuit house here under the leadership of the food supplies and consumer welfare minister.
Out of the 505 pigs in the area, 200 have already been isolated from humans. The animal husbandry department will isolate the remaining 305 pigs within one week.
The district administration will clean the surroundings around the residences here and bleaching powder will be sprinkled in the drainage here.
