Bhubaneswar: For the first time in Odisha, the rare species of Falcated Duck was spotted in Mangalajodi Bird Sanctuary in Khurda district Wednesday.
The rare bird was sighted in the lake of the sanctuary.
According to a source, a trustee of Mangalajodi Conservation and Tourism Trust, Madhu Behera, spotted the bird when he was roaming in the sanctuary. He also clicked some photographs of the Falcated Duck in his mobile phone.
The scientific name of this bird is Anas falcata. These birds are generally seen in Siberia, Mongolia, China and Japan.
In February 2015, this bird was spotted at Samal barrage in Odisha’s Talcher.
Mangalajodi is located at the northern edge of Chilika Lake in Khurda district. In the year 2020 many new birds have migrated to Mangalajodi.
The authority of the sanctuary said that another new species of migratory birds ‘Mallard’ was spotted there for the first time.
Every winter Mangalajodi sanctuary invites many winged guests. Bird lovers find it attractive to witness the beautiful scene of migratory birds in the sanctuary.
