Bhubaneswar: The IMD has issued a red alert for parts of Odisha Thursday as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal moves northwestward, bringing the threat of very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.
According to the weather office, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue in Odisha through August 16, with extremely heavy rain expected at isolated places.
Sundaragada and Kendujhar are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, weather office added.

The well-marked low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh-West Bengal coast moved northwestward and was centered over the West Bengal coast, adjoining Bangladesh and the northwest Bay of Bengal.
The IMD has advised fishermen and people living in coastal areas to remain alert, follow official advisories and avoid entering water bodies during the period of adverse weather.
